Thank you for your interest in the Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery. The information below details the purpose and procedures for electing an individual to the Gallery. Nominations, questions or correspondence should be sent to the Kansas Oil Museum, 383 E. Central, El Dorado, Kansas 67042.

1). Purpose: The Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery honors those men and women who have made contributions to Kansas’ oil heritage.

2). Criteria for Election: The individual should have made a contribution to the petroleum industry and oil heritage of Kansas as clearly evidenced by a record of service and accomplishments.

3). Election Procedures: Any individual may submit a candidate to the Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery. Nominations may be received any time of the year. The staff of the Kansas Oil Museum will collect submissions and review them for completeness. Additional information or clarification may be requested from the originator. The staff will forward all submissions, with supporting materials, to the Board of Trustees for review during their monthly board meetings (the fourth Tuesday of the month). The staff will make no recommendation to the Board regarding submissions. There is no yearly limit to the number of individuals that the Board of Trustees may select for election into the Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery. Candidates must receive a majority vote to be elected.

4). Election Guidelines:

  • Candidates may be living or deceased.
  • Only individuals may be submitted. Companies, groups, firms, and organizations may not be submitted. Partners must be submitted individually.
  • Financial status is not evaluated in the selection process.
  • The following must be included in the election packet:
    • A cover letter naming the candidate and stating the reasons for his or her consideration. Additional information may also be included:
      -Letters of endorsement or support
      -Supplementary information such as newspaper or magazine articles, stories concerning the candidate and his/her accomplishments.
      -Copies of awards, certificates, recognition’s, etc.
    • Photograph of the candidate. An unframed black/white print, 5x7 or 8x10 preferred.

5). Funding Support:
The induction fee for an individual into the Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery is $1,000.00. (Cost breakdown: $250.00 pays photographic reproduction and mounting costs; printing the biographical information; installation and upkeep of the exhibit and inclusion in website virtual gallery. The remaining $750.00 is deposited into the Butler County Historical Society’s Trust Fund to support the continuation of this institution.) Each inductee of the Kansas Oil & Gas Legacy Gallery will receive a lifetime museum membership for themselves and their spouse.
