Visit the Kansas Oil Museum for Dr. Myers's speaker event as he shares about Francisco Vazquez de Coronado and the Seven Cities of Gold. Dr. Myers will cover the history of Coronado, his motives, his career, his time in Kansas, and the historic markers dedicated to the Spanish conquistador. This event is free.
Dr. Myers has taught at Butler Community College for thirty-three years. He is the Chair of Social Sciences and Professor of History and also serves part-time as an assistant pastor in west Wichita and has participated in Civil War and Renaissance Fair re-enactments.
Pictured is Dr. Tim Myers' historic suit of armor, currently on display at the Kansas Oil Museum!
This is a suit of armor that was worn by Spanish knights in the 1500s. It is known as three-quarter armor because they did not wear greaves and sabatons. They wore riding boots instead. It is mostly accurate, except the helmet dates from around 1450 instead of 1500 and the pauldrons (shoulders defenses) would have been a little larger.
Come visit us during open hours to enjoy this historic piece in person, and mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 12th at 7 PM!
